I am hungry, so hungry

You would expect me to say that I am hungry, hungry to train, to perform, to get the black t-shirt at Norseman, etc. But no, these days I am hungry for food. I am constantly hungry for real food, for beef, pork chops, rice, potatoes, good bread and milk. The other night I dreamt about a Norwegian traditional Christmas dinner, and I woke up even more hungry.

I take this as a good sign that my training is going in the right direction and that hopefully the cumulative effect of my training will be beneficial. My view on food is keeping it simple and real. I do not take any supplements, vitamins, protein powder or any other remedies. I believe normal healthy food will provide me with all I need.

Training the week of February 18 - 24

Another ok week when it came to training. The week started a little strange when my Kurt kike trainer broke down. I guess I have used it quite a bit the last year. I ordered a new part and it arrived in five days.

My wife had to travel for work so I "just" got six days of training in. Combine it was 1 hour of swimming, 5,45 running and 4,45 cycling, 11,30 hours combine.

Another great thing happen this week. Norseman's 10 years anniversary movie came out. And yes, it is both motivation and good.

New Norwegian passport so I can go to Norway

I guess there are a ten year anniversary for everything, even for passport. I found out that my ole passport was to expire so I needed to get a new on. Getting a Norwegian passport from Seattle is not the easiest thing to do. The closest place to go is San Francisco and the Royal Norwegian Consulate. So last week I jumped on a plane, flew to San Francisco, had a half hour appointment at the consulate and flew back.

????????y

One week and one day later I got my new hi-tech passport in the mail. I look older on the picture, but I do not have my Saudi-Arabian visa in the new passport. I guess I will get fewer questions when I enter the US from now on.

Now I am set for the next 10 years. Heia Norge

Gaustatoppen today

My brother Ole Gorm went on a little ski trip today. He put skins on his telemark skis and went up to the peak of Gaustatoppen. In half a year I will be at that peak with him.

What a beautiful mountain.

Training the week of, February 11-17

How can you prepare for Norseman. Just the course is enough to scare a fit athlete, so for an age grouper it can be intimidating. Well the best answer is believe in the training you do and race smart. But no matter what, this profile should help me staying motivsted.

Norseman profile

This week was a good one. Even though I had to go to San Francisco one day to get my new Norwegian passport. Overall, 4 hours of running, 1 hour swimming and 7 hours of biking, 12 hours all together. Ok for six days of training.

Norseman 2013 – here I come

It is now official, I have been offered a spot at Norseman 2013 as “someone special” and I have of course accepted. Getting a spot as “someone special” is actually special; it feels good that my little hobby of promoting Norwegian triathlons here in the US has been recognized. But with getting this spot I also feel responsibility for being a good ambassador for Norseman and to take good care of this unique opportunity.

After being high on the news, reality came crushing down on me. And I start questioning my fitness level, I felt fat, slow and out of shape. I think this is typical for all age groupers with a demanding job and a family; we can never be as prepared as we want for a race like Norseman, but we still can race with OK preparations. It is all about being honest, adjusting ambition levels to reality and enjoy the journey. In the end, even Norseman is just a race.

But for now I love being a man in the early forties with too much self-esteem and too little self knowledge. Norseman here I come.
